The singer, songwriter and guitarist Cayley Spivey, who identifies as nonbinary in gender and uses the pronouns they and them, were born in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in 1998. Spivey first wrote their songs at home at the age of 15 before booking local gigs at venues in Myrtle Beach.
From 2015 to 2019 Spivey founded the band Small Talks to play their songs in front of a live audience. After playing in front of local venues and house shows, the band signed with Common Ground Records, which put forth their debut EP Until it Turns to Petals. The band also competed in the “Skullcandy StayLoud Showdown” in Brooklyn at the Knitting Factory, tying for first place.
The band experienced personnel changes while the band was on tour, and Small Talks became a solo act. They then released their first full-length album, A Conversation Between Us in 2019. Small Talks toured extensively as a solo act.
Enjoy a moving performance with Small Talks tickets. In 2020, Spivey announced that they would be performing under her name and discontinued the name Small Talks permanently. Their first single as Casey Spivey, “SFU,” was released on August 14, 2020.
