The Sle Rodeo, more formally known as the Southeastern Livestock Exposition, has a mission to preserve farming and ranching by giving youths opportunities to grow and learn with rodeos, community activities, livestock competitions and other educational events. The Sle Rodeo was founded in 1958 by James Lowell Adams from Dothan, Ala., Adams wanted to create an association dedicated to promoting the livestock and farming industry. He and five others worked together in forming the organization. When it was first founded the SLE rounded up around 45 members and in the modern day, membership to the organization reaches 150. The rodeo takes place at Garret Coliseum in Alabama, with more than 35,000 people attending the rodeo show. Through the Sle Rodeo, the first Alabama State Rodeo Queen contest was created along with some other new events. Those attending the Sle Rodeo can catch competitors in events like Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Bareback Riding and Team Roping along with Saddle Bronc and the class Bull Riding. There will also be livestock competitions for youth and live music.
