Featuring tracks like “Extraneous” and “In My Own Words,” the album set the tone for Skinflint's unique style, which merges traditional metal with mythology and elements of African spirituality. Their sound draws inspiration from acts like Iron Maiden and Metallica, yet they remain on the cutting edge as metal music pioneers. Skinflint released their sophomore album, Iklwa (2010) on Pure Steel Records and performed at the Whiplash Music Festival in Cape Town, South Africa.
Skinflint has maintained a steady presence as a touring trio, with members like Guiseppe Sbrana, Kebonye Nkoloso and Cosmos Modisaemang at its helm. In between the release of their three-track EP Gauna and their 2013 album Dipoko, the rock act toured Europe for the first time in 2012. Skinflint went on to release more music, including Chief of Ghosts (2016) and Hate Spell (2023). The latter project was called “aggressive and gritty” by Invisible Oranges, while Metal Storm made note of its “highly impressive” guitar solos. In 2024, the band performed with Soulfly and has remained active on the international tour circuit.
