McNally began playing gigs in small clubs while studying anthropology at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. After graduation, she moved to Paris and busked before signing with Capitol Records. She recorded the album Jukebox Sparrows, but the album was not released at that time. Shannon McNally then became a supporting act, touring with Stevie Nicks and Ryan Adams. She also was part of the 1999 Girl’s Room tour. She also modeled for the cosmetics company Urban Decay. Her EP Bolder Than Paradise was issued in 2000.
