She was considered a wunderkind and performed in 1989 on the same stage as the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestras, where she soloed.
Chang qualified at the age of five to study music at Juilliard School, with a recital of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 in G Minor for her audition. As she attended Juilliard School, she also studied with Isaac Stern, Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Kang. The young violinist also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School. After graduating in 1999, Chang attended Juilliard University and continued studying under DeLay.
