At the outbreak of WWII, the Mayor of Vienna tasked Krauss with conducting a New Year’s concert to lift the spirits of his people. The concerts continued until 1954 when Krauss passed away. Conductor Clemens Krauss was the first to lead what would become one of Vienna's great musical traditions of the century. Now, led by conductors who take pride in Viennese music, Salute To Vienna features European cast members singing and dancing the way Strauss originally intended. The performance is accompanied by the Vienna Strauss Symphony and contains selections from beloved operettas, elegant dances, lively overtures, and the beautiful Blue Danube Waltz. It will feature over 125 ballet and ballroom dancers, singers, conductors and ten separate orchestras with approximately 65 members each! The Salute to Vienna originally debuted in Toronto and is now presented annually throughout 20 major North American cities. It has even been featured on PBS and co-hosted by internationally-renowned mezzo-soprano, Frederica von Stade and Academy Award-winning actor, Maximilian Schell.
