The team has played in two bowl games, losing to Grambling State, 34–7, in the Pasadena Bowl in 1968 and defeating Montana State, 28–7, in the Camellia Bowl in 1964.

The Sacramento State Hornets play the rival University of California, Davis Aggies once a year and usually in the final game of the regular season.
