Photographs, released in 2011, was named one of the top 50 albums of that year by American Songwriter magazine.
The exposure from Photographs saw Ellis sign to New West Records and begin touring widely. He has played alongside high-profile rock and country artists like Old Crow Medicine Show and Alabama Shakes. Ellis relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 2012 to record his album The Lights from the Chemical Plant, where he took a turn toward a more pop-rock sound.
