He performed at many open mics growing up with a heavy interest in Hip-Hop at an early age. Base and E-Z Rock got together and released the single “DJ Interview” in 1987, which led to a deal with Profile Records.
Their debut album, titled It Takes Two, was released the following year, certified by the RIAA. The album had charting singles like “It Takes Two” and “Joy and Pain.” The group split shortly after leading to Rob Base, releasing a solo album, The Incredible Base, in 1989. The album ultimately went gold with notable singles like “Turn It Out.” In 2008, “It Takes Two” was added to VH1’s “100 Greatest Songs of Hip-Hop” list.
After a reunion, the pair released Break Of Dawn with Funky Base Records in 1994. DJ E-Z Rock passed away in 2004 at the age of 46.
