Born in 1983, RioPy developed an interest in piano as a boy after finding an abandoned piano near his family home. He began teaching himself to play, and by 17 had been selected as a featured artist by Steinway & Sons. As a young man, RioPy moved to London to pursue a music career in earnest. 

In the late 2000s and early 2010s, the budding pianist gave some of his earliest concerts at Oxford University and the Royal Opera House. He gained a significant degree of exposure after performing at a Vanity Fair gala in 2018, after which he released his debut album RIOPY.
