The electric blues band Rick & The Nightcats was formed in 2008 by some members of the band Little Charlie & The Nightcats with Rick Estrin as the front man handling lead singing and harmonica along with guitarist Kid Anderson, Lorenzo Farrell on bass and Alexander Petterson playing drums.

The band has traveled since it was established, touring across the globe and performing at such venues as the Notodden Blues Festival in Norway, Brazil’s Caxias de Soul Festival and the Monaghan Blues Festival in Ireland. In 2017, the band played at the Chicago Blues Festival.

At the Blues Foundation’s 39th Annual Blues Music Awards, the group won “Band of the Year,” “Song of the Year” for “The Blues Ain’t Going Nowhere” and Astrin himself was named “Traditional Male Blues Artist” 

Estrin himself has also been recognized, winning the 1994 Blues Music Award for Song of the Year with “My Next Ex-Wife.” While with The Nightcats, he won the 2013 Blues Music Award for Best Instrumentalist – Harmonica. He has also written music for other significant acts as Koko Taylor, Robert Cray and John Hammond.
