The artist was born in 1944 and began his professional music career as part of the Au Go Go Singers ensemble in New York City. Furay then created the country rock group Poco in the late ’60s with Jim Messina and Rusty Young. The band became a key influence on later country rock artists, and achieved fame with their songs “Kind Woman” and “Pickin’ Up The Pieces,” written by Furay himself. 

In 1974 the singer formed the Souther Hillman Furay Band, whose self-titled debut album went on to be certified gold and contained the Top 30 hit song “Fallin’ In Love.” Furay then became one of the pioneers of Christian rock with his 1976 release I’ve Got A Reason and went on to collaborate with various well-known artists including the Piedmont Brothers Band and Carla Olson. The artist continues to tour with Poco and was recently featured in the music documentary Through It All: The Life and Influence of Richie Furay.
