Born in 1941 in Naples, Muti found a love for music watching his father perform as an amateur singer. Through the 70s, Muti served as the conductor and director of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, developing a reputation for his renditions of Mozart’s operas at the Salzburg Festival. In the 80s he conducted the Filharmonica della Scala, receiving the prestigious Viotti d’Oro prize in 1988. Through the 90s, he toured internationally with both the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic, performing in locations as diverse as Hong Kong, Germany and Korea.
