It was originally called Sunglasses on a Plane. Sunglasses on a Plane was created in Troy, Mich., and it had Avery Springer as the frontman. As the band Sunglasses on a Plane, they released one EP called Excess Company in 2015. For their next EP, Sunglasses on a Plane changed their name to Retirement Party, and they haven’t changed it since. Their new EP that came out in 2017 was called Strictly Speaking.

In 2020, Retirement released their second full-length album called Runaway Dog. In 2022, the band announced on Instagram that they are breaking up, but they will be doing one last tour.
