The original Los Angeles production earned a number of awards and accolades including the Ovation Awards for Best Ensemble, Best Adaptation and Best Musical in a Smaller Theatre.
In the early 2000s, Reefer Madness opened off-Broadway in New York City, where it again enjoyed widespread popularity and acclaim. The rights were later sold to the Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatricals organization, through which the musical has enjoyed a slew of productions by local theater groups across the US.
