Born in Tehran in 1978, Karimloo emigrated to Canada as a child. There he discovered a love of the performing arts after watching a Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera. As a young man, Karimloo moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a career as a stage actor.
The artist then enjoyed several small roles in productions of Aladdin, The Pirates of Penzance and Sunset Boulevard before making his West End debut in Les Miserables in 2002. By 2007, Karimloo had been cast in the title role in The Phantom of the Opera, for which he received a Theatregoers’ Choice Award nomination for Best Actor in a Take Over Role. The actor then made his Broadway debut in the 2014 revival of Les Miserables, for which he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
