The Finnish word “rajaton” means boundless, which they use to describe the breadth of their work. Rajaton performs mainly in Finland, but has appeared in over 25 countries. Most of their songs are arranged by their ensemble and most lyrics are taken from poetry.
Album sales for Rajaton had reached 100,000 by 2005. The album Rajaton Sings Abba has gone platinum with over 30,000 sales and Joulu hit double platinum with over 60,000 sales. The group has recorded over 15 albums, including Rajaton sings Queen with Lahti Symphony Orchestra, which was released in 2008.
Enjoy an eclectic acapella performance with Rajaton tickets. The six members of the band include Essi Wuorela, who also has solo albums to her credit. She studied at the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory, graduating as a music teacher in 1999. She was known as the presenter of the Finnish children’s television program “Harlekini-klubi” as Super-Essi.
Also in the band is bass singer Jussi Chydenius who is also a musician and composer. Jussi is the son of composer Kaj Chydenius and director Kaisa Korhonen. Jussi played drums for the rock band Don Huonot from 1989 to 2001 as a founding member. He also appeared on the Finnish television sketch show Vintiot.
Other members include Alto Soila Sariota and Hannu Lepola as well as Baritone Ahti Paunu. The original mezzo-soprano, Virpi Moskari, was replaced with Alli Ikonen in 2017.
