Born in Oak Park, Ill., Baiman learned to play multiple instruments as a child including the fiddle, banjo and guitar. At seventeen she claimed the Illinois State Fiddle championship before moving to Nashville to study at Vanderbilt University. 

While in college Baiman developed her signature sound that draws from influences like John Hartford and Courtney Barnett. In addition to country and bluegrass styles, the singer-songwriter also occasionally plays old-time music, a subgenre of folk traditionally accompanied by clogging. 

In 2017 Baiman released her album Shame, which featured production by Andrew Marlin of Mandolin Orange fame. The artist has earned rave reviews from publications like NPR Music, Paste Magazine and Vice for her clever lyrics, soulful instrumentation and challenging anti-authoritarian themes. 

Baiman is also the founder of Folk Fights Back, an organization dedicated to benefit concerts and raising awareness for progressive political causes. She occasionally performs with Christian Sedelmyer as part of the fiddle duo 10 String Symphony.
