Born in Tyler, TX, the singer grew up in a religious home and became familiar with gospel music at a very young age. She sang in the all-state choir in high school and continued to earn a B.A. degree in Vocal Performance at Louisiana State University. Her career as a vocalist began in the classical music genre as a member of the St. James Episcopal Church choir in Baton Rouge. She began branching out into other genres after meeting Janelle Brown, the singer of 2 Da T and quickly starting pulling influence from more zydeco and R&B.
After independently releasing her EP, Loving Me, Lynell went on to win the 2017 Sarah Vaughan Internation Jazz Vocal Competition, Lynell earned a record deal with Concord Records. In 2019 she would release her debut album, A Little Love, on the label that featured the songs “Move Me No Mountain” and “What Is Love?”. She has taken the stage at the iconic New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival as well as the R&B festival held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in addition to singing with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
