The string quartet Quatuor Ebene was formed in the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory in France in 1999. The ensemble first attained national prominence by taking first place at the ARD International Music Competition in the categories of string quartet, the Audience Prize as well as prizes for interpretation and the Karl Klinger Foundation Prize in 2004.
In 2005, the ensemble again won a major competition, winning the Belmont Prize from the Forberg-Schneider Foundation. Quatuor Ebene’s debut release, a live version of three Haydn quartets, was very well received. Their 2009 release, of string quartets by Ravel, Faure and Debussy earned a “Newcomer of the Year” award from BBC Magazine as well as group Recording of the Year from the 2009 Classic FM Gramophone Awards.

The quartet is famed for its versatility and also performs jazz, contemporary music and other styles. It has received fame for its rendition of the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction, Beatles’ arrangements and other crossover performances and recordings.
