The duo signed with Seattle indie label Up Records and released R&B Transmogrification in 1997, which was praised for its imaginative and innovative sound, full of distortion and heartbreaking lyrics. The following year the indie rockers released their groundbreaking sophomore album, Featuring “Birds”, with popular songs like “I Never Want to See You Again” and “The Poisoned Well” garnering praise from outlets like Rolling Stone magazine. They refused to let up over the next few years, with 1999’s Field Studies and 2001’s Sword of God continuing to grow their not so underground sized fanbase across the nation. As they continued to tour together and as members of various other groups, they returned to the studio for multiple releases, including their 2013 album Mole City.
