The manager of Preservation Hall asked Jaffe if he’d be interested in managing the venue, which led to the beginning of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Jaffe began hiring local musicians to perform at Preservation Hall and tour around the United States as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Many of these musicians were eventually hired by the Olympia Brass Band. This band became a staple at Preservation Hall and had an influence on the development of future Preservation Hall Jazz Band musicians.
