After the breakup of their original band, Anatomy of a Ghost, founding members John Gourley and Zach Carothers teamed up with Wesley Hubbard, Nick Klein and Harvey Tumbleson to start a new band from what was once a side project and in 2004 Portugal. The Man was born. In the early days, they didn’t see much success. They spent the first two years of their existence recording demos and touring the US to build up their following. In 2006 the band released their debut album, “Waiter: You Vultures!” Although the album didn’t gain mainstream recognition, it did help with growing their fan base.

Their followup album, Church Mouth was released in July of 2007 and gained even more fanfare as the band toured both the United States and Europe. It wasn’t until the release of their third album titled Censored Colors in 2008 that the band began to be recognized nationally and they won the 2008 Alternative Press award for “Best Vocalist of the year” for their song Woodstock.

By 2009 the Portugal. The Man began playing concerts at major events like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. This would open the door for them to sign their first major recording contract with Atlantic Records in April of 2010 and put them well on their way to superstardom.

To date, the band has released eight studio albums, four EPs and 11 singles. Their album Woodstock, which was released in 2017 is certified gold. The band has toured all over North America and Europe. They’ve released chart-topping singles like “Live In The Moment” and “Feel It Still” which won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
