The group vacillated between several different names at first, including “Cellodarity” and “Celli” before ultimately settling on the current name of the collective. Rogers split artistic direction duties with Douglas Jenkins until Rogers left Portland for West Virginia in mid-2007, leaving Jenkins as the general manager and artistic director, in addition to producing all of the ensemble’s recordings.
In 2012, the band recorded and released the songs from the Beck project Song Reader with guest singers. The group first toured as support for the band Buckethead on his 2008 West Coast USA tour. The next year, in 2009 they had their first national US and Canadian tour with Thao With the Get Down Stay Down during the fall. The group frequently collaborates with other artists, including Peter Yarrow, Dan Bern, Mirah and others.
