Pieces of a Dream were part of the Philly soul phenomenon in the 1980s and are best known for their hit single 'Fo-Fi-Fo' which made the US top 20 in 1983. The slick, Grover Washington-produced track was a radio-friendly recording and it established the band into what is now commonly referred to as the smooth jazz genre. The hit single was the culmination of six years of hard work by founding members Cedric Napoleon on bass, drummer Curtis Harmon and keyboard player James Lloyd.

Although 'Fo-Fi-Fo' was the band's most significant chart placing they have been consistently successful jazz and R&B act throughout their 40-year history and have the distinction of having had two outstanding female vocalists in their past line-ups - Tracy Hamlin and the late Eva Cassidy. Cassidy appeared on the band's 1994 album 'Goodbye Manhattan' and Hamlin was the lead vocalist between 2002 and 2005 appearing on the albums 'Love Silhouette' and 'No Assembly Required'. Only Lloyd and Harmon remain from the original line-up, augmented by ex-New Kids On the Block bassist David Dyson. The band continues to make live appearances but their last studio album was 'All In' released in 2015.
