The Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) has a long, rich history that began back in 1955 when Marcia Dale Weary opened the Marcia Dale School of Dance in Carlisle, Pa. Two years later, Weary and her sister bought and renovated a barn, which became The Barn studios—an iconic dance center that remains to this day. In 1965, the dance school put on its first, full-length performance of The Nutcracker. By 1974, Marcia Dale School of Dance became a non-profit company and changed its name to Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet.

Since then, they have become the only school in the world to be licensed by the George Balanchine Trust to perform George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. They were also named the Resident Ballet Company for The Whitaker Center for the Science and the Arts. In an effort to enrich the community, CPYB began the DiscoverDance program in 2003 to expose local children to ballet and dance training. She carries on the original legacy and vision for the school.
