He studied at Trinity College of Music and played with Arcade Fire and CocoRosie before recruiting Marianne Faithfull and Edward Larrikin to feature on his more pop friendly third album The Magic Position (2007). After being dropped by Universal Records he funded the acclaimed The Bachelor (2009) by selling £10 shares to fans through the website bandstocks.com and returned to a major label for the "festival of love" themed Lupercalia (2011).
