Eventually, they met Adam Heet (bass), and Adam Willis (keyboard) who would complete the original band. Three years later they released their debut album Passafire in 2006. It found a decent amount of acclaim but Passafire cemented themselves in reggae with their second album Submersible released the next year. The record was able to land a spot on iTunes Top 10 Best Reggae Albums of 2007. Though their 2019 single “Keepin On” catches the group’s spirit perfectly as they push the genre of reggae forward.
Passafire tickets aren’t like your typical reggae concert as their style blends many different genres. Songs take on rock and hip-hop themes like wild guitar riffs that wouldn’t traditionally be found in reggae. The band’s members changed over time with Willis and Heet leaving to be replaced by Mike DeGuzman (keyboards) and Will Kubley (bass, backup vocals). That didn’t hinder their growth however with their fourth album Start From Scratch reaching the #1 spot on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart. Passafire has built up a strong career spanning multiple decades in which they’ve performed alongside other major groups like Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and U2. Finding success again with the #1 spot on their 2013 release Vines, Passafire doesn’t seem to be stopping soon.
