Chris Freeman, who plays, guitars, bass, banjo, pump organ, and is lead vocalist, teamed up with Antonio Alcorn, who plays bass, banjo, mandolin, and provides backing vocals, meet through the university’s folk music club. After landing an open invitation at Toad’s Place, they required Harrison Goodale, who plays bass, and Max Shakun, who plays the synthesizer, pump organ, and guitar. They won fan favorite at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in 2012. The band signed with Signature Sounds in 2013 and recorded their first studio album Poor Old Shine in Parsonsfield, Maine, which they named the band after. They also hired Erik Hischmann, the session drummer, to join the band.
Parsonsfield released the EP Afterparty covering songs from John Hurt and Huey Lewis and the News in addition to traditional songs. Their sophomore full-length album Blooming Through the Black dropped in 2016. e, the band’s second EP, came out in 2018 after they wrote an original score for the 1922 documentary Nanook of the North.
