Os Mutantes are a six-piece psychedelic rock band from Brazil known as pioneering artists in the country’s Tropicalia movement of the late '60s and early '70s. The members are Claudio Tchernev, Henrique Peters, Carly Bryant, Vinicius Junqueira, Esmeria Bulgari and Sergio Dias. 

Os Mutantes made their debut in 1966 on the popular variety program O Pequeno Mundo de Ronnie Von. They had previously performed in and around Sao Paulo as Os Bruxos but changed their name to Os Mutantes mere minutes before performing on the program. Their name comes from a reference to the book Emperor of the Mutants by Stefan Wul. 

In the years that followed, the band developed a name for themselves as leading members of the Tropicalia movement, a popular Brazilian music movement characterized by psychedelic, progressive and experimental rock. Despite a number of successful albums throughout the '70s, Os Mutantes took an extended hiatus beginning in 1978. They reunited in 2006, and continue to tour and record still today. They maintain a cult following in their native Brazil, as well as among fans of psychedelic rock.
