Andrews is the younger brother of trumpeter and bandleader James Andrews and the grandson of singer and songwriter Jessie Hill. Andrews began playing trombone at age four. He later attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts along with fellow musician Jon Batiste. In 2005 Andrews was a featured member of Lenny Kravitz's horn section in a world tour that shared billing with Aerosmith. The following year he performed with U2 and Green Day during the re-opening of the New Orleans Superdome for the Monday Night Football pre-game show. In 2010 Andrews released Backatown, which was number one on Billboard magazine's Contemporary Jazz Chart for nine weeks. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue have toured across the world and occasionally support Jeff Beck in the U.K. and Dave Matthews Band in the U.S. They have performed twice at the White House for President Barack Obama.
