The members of Orgona had known each other since the early '90s but did not officially form a band until 1999. In their early years, Orgone found work providing backing instrumentation for emerging hip-hop artists in Los Angeles. They garnered acclaim as a band, however, following the successful release of their self-titled debut album in 2001.

Orgone’s profile continued to grow in the years that followed, primarily due to a string of early 2000s hits such as “Funky Nassau,” “I Get Lifted” and “Do Your Thing.” By 2010, the band had toured with high-profile acts like Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and performed at prominent events like Bonnaroo and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
