The Swedish clarinetist, Örjan Kjellin, known as Orange Kellin, has made a name for himself within the jazz community in New Orleans over the course of decades. He started playing the clarinet when he was 15 in 1959 and was able to form a partnership with a pianist just two years later. By 1966, he moved to New Orleans and became a regular performer at the leading jazz venues in the area including the historic Preservation Hall. He went on to form a number of bands in New Orleans, such as the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra, and play with them all over the city. He moved into recording with many veterans in the scene including Preston Jackson and Jabbo Smith, played a part in the soundtrack for the movie "Pretty Baby", and garnered the opportunity to be the musical director and co-arranger in the onstage band for the musical “One Mo' Time” during 1979 in New York. He did the same in London, England during the 80s with The New Orleans Blue Serenaders. He formed the Serenaders from the musicians and vocalists from the musical "One Mo' Time". Eventually, Kellin garnered a Grammy nomination for his work in “One Mo’ Time” and performed for Queen during the time he musically directed the show in London. He continues to preserve the New Orleans style of music with his skillful solos and his commanding presence in bands.
