The Orange Blossom Classic was held annually from 1933 to 1978. The tradition was revived in 2021.

The first Orange Blossom Classic was held in 1933, with Florida A&M beating the Howard University Bisons 9-0 at Jacksonville, Fla. In 1934, Florida A&M again won, this time defeating the Virginia State Trojans by the score of 13-12 in Miami, Florida. In 1935, Kentucky State became the first team other than Florida A&M to win the Classic with the Thorobreds defeating the Rattlers 19-10.
