In 1983, Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg started Opera Atelier as co-artistic directors. They began performing fully staged performances by 1985. They've been praised by foreign governments (French Order of Arts and Letters), their peers (2007 Opera Canada Ruby Award) as well as the City of Toronto (Muriel Sherrin Award for outstanding contribution to music in Toronto). Opera Atelier's productions and artists have received numerous Dora Mavor Moore nominations and won in 2005 and 2007. In addition to Opera Atelier's artistic quality, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, a Grammy-nominated and Juno Award-winning long-time collaborator of the ensemble, is the world's best orchestra on period instruments. Tafelmusik is Canada's most traveled orchestra, having played in more than 350 different cities in 32 countries, and its international reputation is unassailable.
