Kern was born into a family of passionate musicians, including her parents who were successful classical pianists. Kern’s grandmother is renowned mezzo-soprano Vera Pushechnikova. Kern began studying piano at the tender age of five and gave her first piano concerto at age seven. She won the Concertino Praga Competition at age 11 and by the time she was 17, won first place at the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition.

After several years, Kern was gifted the opportunity to study under Professor Evgeny Imakin at Central Music School of Moscow. She has received several honorary scholarships and has also competed in the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, the Eleventh Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and appears in three documentaries: 2001’s Playing on the Edge, 2003’s Olga’s Journey, 2008’s They Came to Play, 2012’s The Cliburn: 50 Years of Gold.
