The Ocala Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1975 in Ocala, Florida as the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra when some musicians and civic-minded citizens decided to create a professional symphonic orchestra based in the Central Florida region. The orchestra became officially incorporated on February 17, 1976, and achieved 501(c)(3) status in August of 1977.
