Nuclear Assault was founded in 1984 by Lillker and Connelly with a vision of playing a more aggressive style of heavy metal music than what had been done in their previous band, Anthrax. Their demo Live Suffer Die caught the eye of Combat Records, with whom they signed to release their debut full-length album Game Over in 1986. The album met with widespread critical acclaim, and they began touring extensively alongside high-profile acts like Atomkraft and Agent Steel. Nuclear Assault’s next two albums Survive and Handle with Care reached the top of the Billboard 200, establishing the band as one of the leading groups in the budding thrash metal genre.
Despite a brief hiatus beginning in 1995, Nuclear Assault reunited in 2002 to give celebrated appearances at the Metal Meltdown Festival and Wacken Festival.
