The New Rhythm & Blues Quartet formed in 1965 in Louisville, Kentucky, playing some of their earliest shows at the famed Cheetah Club. By 1969 they were signed to Columbia Records, through which they released their eponymous debut album later that year. The group’s musical sophistication saw them collaborate heavily with star Carl Perkins on his Boppin’ the Blues, as well as perform widely alongside R.E.M. as part of the Acronym Tour.
Despite a brief hiatus in 2004, the New Rhythm & Blues Quartet reunited in 2006 to record their critically acclaimed Louisville Sluggers album. Over the years the band has grown a dedicated cult following due to their ability to record music ranging from Beatles-style pop to traditional jazz.
