The band takes its name from the Nile River in Egypt, and the better part of their music makes heavy use of ancient Egyptian culture and religion.
The band members are Karl Sanders as lead singer, George Kollias as the drummer, Brad Parris as bassist and Brian Kingsland as lead guitar. The Nile is known for its poetic lyrics and mythological and occult themes. They are highly prolific, with nearly two dozen releases over a ten-year span.
The band’s first EP Festivals of Atonement was well-received and led to Nile’s first round of tours alongside other up-and-coming metal acts. Nile’s third album In Their Darkened Shrines saw the group’s signature sound come together. Critics praised the way in which the album fused heavy metal with an epic and orchestral flavor. The style has been Nile’s trademark ever since.
