Born and raised in Waterbury, Zuraitis originally pursued a career in sports, though turned to music following a significant hip injury. She learned to play the drums and trombone as a teenager, followed by the piano as a young woman. Zuraitis discovered a love for jazz after attending the Litchfield Jazz Camp, which motivated her to study voice at New York University. She moved to New York City to pursue a jazz career in the late 2000s. 

The artist released her debut album Spread the Word in 2008 to critical acclaim. She gained the most notoriety, however, for her frequent collaborations with the Dan Pugach Nonet. By 2019 her work with the group had earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Arrangement. Zuraitis is also the recipient of the Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award and the IMEA Award for Best Jazz Album.
