Born in 1975 in Rotterdam, Freitas formed the boy band, Quatro Plus as a teenager with Adilson Ben David, Nelson Oliveira and Nilton Ramalho. The band played the combination of zouk and R&B music which would later become Freitas’ signature sound.
By the early 2000s, Freitas had set off on a solo career, releasing his first solo album Magic in 2006. The album featured songs in both English and Cape Verdean Creole, with guest appearances by Ben Harper and Vanessa da Mata. Magic would prove the best-selling album of the year in the kizomba genre.
Freitas released a handful of moderately successful albums in the years to come, collaborating with a slew of similar artists like Anselmo Ralph, C4 Pedro and Sanches Laisa. In 2013 the artist’s single “Simple Girl” won the Best Video Award at the Cabo Verde Music Awards. He is currently signed to the Believe label and continues to tour to a dedicated following.
