Myriam Hernandez is a Chilean songwriter and singer best known for her romantic ballads and charting music. Myriam Hernandez began her career as a singer in 1980 after releasing the track "Ay Amor."
By the time she was 18 years old, Myriam Hernandez was declared the Best New Artist by the Chilean press. She released her first studio album, Myriam Hernandez I, in 1988. The album was an instant success that propelled her into stardom within her native country. She earned the Disco de Oro, and the album would later become certified platinum in Columbia, Peru, Costa Rica, the United States, and other countries. In addition, two of the album's tracks, "El Hombre Que Yo Amo" and "Ay Amor," remained near the top of music charts in the US and Latin America for months.
In 1989, Myriam Hernandez tickets became available again as she toured as a guest performer at the Festival de Viña del Mar. That same year, Myriam Hernandez I was awarded the Mejor Producción Discográfica (Best Record) and Myriam Hernandez received the APES award for Best Female Performer. Additionally, the album was listed on the top 10 bestselling Latin albums.
In 1990, Myriam Hernandez's success only continued with the release of her second album, Dos. The album debuted on the top of the Billboard charts and remained charting for over a year. In addition, the track "Peligroso Amor" peaked at the No. 1 spot for several weeks upon its release.
Her next album, Myriam Hernandez II, was released in 1992 and was quickly certified gold and platinum in multiple countries, including the US. After that, she released two more albums in the 1990s, all garnishing further success and fame for the Chilean singer.
In 1992, Myriam Hernandez performed at the Acapulco Festival. In addition, she performed at two concerts at Santiago de Chile's Municipal Theatre in 2001. The following year, Myriam Hernandez began to host the popular Chile competition, Viña del Mar International Song Festival. She went on to become the first and only woman to host for 25 nights.
Myriam Hernandez released four more successful albums throughout the 2000s, including + y Mas (2000), Huellas (2004), Enamorandome (2007), and Seduccion (2011).
