He was born Michael Francis Foley in Bloomington, Indiana of Irish descent. Shortly after being born, the family moved to East Setauket, a Long Island town east of New York City. Mick showed interest in professional wrestling at an early age. He was a student at the State University of New York at Cortland when he hitchhiked to Madison Square Garden to see Jimmy Superfly Snuka, his favorite wrestler, in a steel cage match against Don Moraco. Foley has stated that watching Snuka’s flying body splash inspired him to take up professional wrestling.
