Born in San Francisco, Sever learned to play guitar as a boy, and in his teens began giving performances in local coffee shops throughout the city. By the late ‘90s, he had moved to Austin, where he developed a name for himself in the city’s music scene through hosting the Flipnotics Coffeespace open mic night. Sever earned the nickname “The Electrician” due to his frequently showing up for the mic sweaty from a hard day’s work, and he later adopted the moniker as his professional stage name. 

Sever’s 2004 album Long Way Home was a runaway success and allowed the artist to quit his day job and pursue a music career full-time. He soon developed a devoted following to his accessible lyrics, impressive storytelling ability and down-to-earth onstage persona.
