Hear a talented flautist with Mathieu Dufour tickets. The flutist Mathieu Dufour was born in Paris in 1972. He first picked up the flute and began playing at the age of eight. His first teach was Madeleine Chassang and then studied at the Conservatoire National Superior Musique de Lyon, mentored by Maxence Larrieu. 

Dufour first played professionally in 1993, when he was appointed principal flute for the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. He relocated to Paris and became the principal flute at the Orchestre de l’Opera National de Paris in 1996. In 1999, then Music Director of the Chicago Symphony, Daniel Barenboim, appointed him the principal flute for the symphony. In 2009, he served as principal flutist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic for one year and then returned to the Chicago Symphony.

He subsequently joined the Philharmoniker in August of 2015, where he shared the title of principal flutist with Emmanuel Pahud. 

He has often worked as a soloist, with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Fabio Luisi, Barenboim and Christoph Eschenbach. He also has performed chamber music, working with Mitsuko Uchida, Pinchas Zukerman and Julia Fischer. He has won numerous international competitions, such as the Concours de flute Jean-Pierre Rampal.
