He explored his interest in music at a young age by teaching himself how to play the drums. He learned how to play the piano, sax and drum machine, which he incorporates into his music. His music is influenced by the works of John P. Kee, Cab Calloway and Andre 3000. Masego himself describes his music as “TrapHouseJazz.”
He decided on Masego as his professional name while he was exploring his family’s South African heritage. He briefly attended Old Dominion University, but dropped out to pursue his passion for music and performing. Masego released his first EP in 2016 titled, “The Pink Polo EP,” and followed up with his EP called “Loose Thoughts.” EQT Recordings, LLC released his first full-length studio album titled “Lady Lady” on September 7, 2018, which featured FKJ and De’Wayne Jackson. In 2019, Masego teamed up with singer Ari Lennox for the song ‘Up Late’ for her hit album “Shea Butter Baby.” Masego tickets have been a hit as he performs at the largest music festivals in the United States, including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival.
