Kruger has been awarded five ACC Coach of the Year honors and is currently ranked number one for cumulative wins among women’s volleyball coaches. The Terrapins would struggle after Kruger’s departure until Steve Aird was hired as the new head coach in 2014. Steve Aird’s first season with the team would see him lead Maryland to a 6–0 start, their best since 2005. He saw the Terrapins through their first schedule in the Big Ten and drastically increased support through the local community.
The school averaged a 500% increase in women’s volleyball attendance within Aird’s first year as coach. The team set four top-10 attendance records in the university’s history, including the number one attendance record. Under Aird’s leadership, the Terrapins won their first Big Ten win versus Rutgers. The Terps showed sustained improvement during the season, with the greatest number of upset victories since Kruger.
