Born in New York City in 1943, Muldaur fell in love with music listening to records by artists like Hank Williams, Muddy Waters and The Five Satins.
Muldaur set off on a professional music career in the early 60s, performing for a number of years with Stefan Grossman, John Sebastian and David Grisman in the Even Dozen Jug Band. Over time she became an integral part of the now-famous Greenwich Village circle that included the legendary Bob Dylan.
In 1972, Muldaur began solo work, releasing her self-titled debut album the following year. The album’s lead single “Midnight at the Oasis” was a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a charting success in the UK as well. Throughout the rest of the 70s, Muldaur performed frequently with The Grateful Dead and collaborated extensively with bluegrass star Peter Rowan.
