Pires’ first public recital was at the age of five. She was playing Mozart’s piano concertos in public by the time she was seven years old. She attended the Lisbon Conservatory and was tutored by Campos Coelho. She then studied in Germany at the Musikakademie with Rosi Schmidt and then was mentored by Karl Enget in Hanover.
